THE GUITAR: This is 1989 DELUXE AMERICAN STANDARD STRATOCASTER in a rare Lipstick Red. (Serial #E922450). For a short time around 1989-1990 Fender produced a number of these Deluxe American Standard Strats, which was a Standard Strat with the addition of a TBX tone control, hip-shot tremse tter, and Gold Lace Sensors pickupsâ€"thus Fender christened the guitar a “Deluxe”. It has the features of a Strat Plus minus the locking tuners and the Wilkinson roller nut. Many people mistakenly sell these as a Strat Plus. These are quickly becoming collector items due to their limited production. The Blue Book of Guitars states that there were only around 400 of these produced. This has the hip-shot tremsetter. If a string breaks, it will compensate thus keeping the guitar in tune. The guitar looks stunning and plays very nice. Finding one of these in Lipstick Red is pretty rare. This color is one of Fender’s “candy colors,” being produced by first laying down a base coat of Vintage White, followed by several semi-transparent coats of bright red. Then it is sprayed with several coats of clear. The final product is a very deep, bright, wet-looking red. The color is hard to photograph, so I took pictures under several different lighting conditions to giv e you a better idea what it really looks like. This guitar weighs 8 lbs 3 ozs and is made from Alder THE NECK: 22-fret skunk striped Maple neck with Rosewood fret board. The frets are in excellent condition. The radius (9.5) and has a nice modern C shape. It has the Biflex truss rod, which gives you low fast action. This neck really has a nice feel to it. THE CONDITION: The body is near mint as you can tell by looking over the pictures, with the exception of two very small nicks on the back and a very faint hairline finish crack in the upper neck socket. I tried to photograph it, but very hard to see. The neck is also near mint except for couple very, very light indentations. One can hardly see them, but you can feel lik e lightly when you run your hand up and down the back. Most eBay sellers would not even mention something this but, hey, I am OCD about my guitars and a fanatic about their condition. I am into detail. Anything else you see on this guitar are only reflections on this high gloss body. Very clean guitar for being nearly 24 years old. THE ELECTRONICS: The Fender Lace Sensor pickups are powerful and very quiet.
