Serial #: 1926D. 9.4 lbs. Gibson did something extra special when honoring Les. They created 6 guitars for each year Les Paul lived- from 1915 to 2009- only 564 guitars in total. Each one is stamped 'Prototype' and has a handwritten serial number. This is 1926D, the fourth of the 6 guitars from the 1926 serial era- the 64th guitar made- very early in the run. This beauty has everything you have come to love about the original Gold Top- solid mahogany body without weight relief and the wraparound brass trapeze tailpiece inpired by Les' own design. These two combined bring incredible resonance and that famous Les Paul sound. The maple top adds in some nice high ends mids for cutting midrange. With that solid tone foundation set , Gibson use dual P-90's to faithfully reproduce the gorgeous cleans of the original '52. The bridge position has a touch of sparkle and the neck has that big warmth. Add some overdrive and these beauties really open up with a complex midrange character. Beautiful. The neck here is the 50's profile made from one piece mahogany. This enables amazing tone transfer and overall sustain. The 50's profile also gives you an excellent platform for squeezing bends on the 12" radius fingerboard. A true pleasure to play. The look here is classic- that gorgeous gold top finish with cream binding, fully bound neck, highly polished chrome hardware, speed knobs, and that gorgeous trapeze tailpiece. This 'Paul is in exceptional condition- nothing to report. The frets are clean- just professionally set up with action of 3/32" at the 12th fret.
