A 1986 Gibson SG Special in cream. This guitar is a pretty unique axe. It has been completely refinished. When I found this guitar, it was broken in two places and covered in stickers. The headstock was cleanly cracked at the nut in the usual Gibson manner, and the top was cracked near the output jack. I glued the entire guitar back together using Stew Mac jigs and Franklin Tite Bond. I used Citrus Strip to remove the original nitrocellulose black finish. I repainted the guitar in a cream color using Behlen Nitrocellulose lacquer and Stew Mac lacquer pigments. The finish was then wetsanded to 2000 grit and buffed out using three grades of Stew Mac compound. The finish looks great and professional, though it has been played a good bit since so it does show some small areas of dings, dents and wear. After the lacquer cured, you can still see the faint repair lines on the top and at the headstock when loo king under raking light. There is a small clearcoat finish crack near the back of the headstock, but is just in the clearcoat. The headstock decal is a vinyl logo that was sealed under the lacquer. The serial number is still completely visable as well as the "Made in the USA" stamp. The pick plate is hand cut from 5 ply pickguard material. The pickguard actually hides the original third control knob hole. SG Specials from this era didn't have pick plates and had two volumes and one tone. I currently have it wired for one volume and one tone. The Grover tuners, bridge, tailpiece, potentiometers, selector switch and output jack are original to the guitar. The pickups have been replaced with real Gibson Burstbuckers. The strap buttons have been replaced with Schaller Straplocks. The pickup rings are not original, but are Gibson brand. The nut has been replaced&nbs p;with a professional bone nut. The truss rod cover is also a n ew Gibson SG Gibson brand. The back control cavity cover is original and does have some residue from stickers and paint. I left it there as a testament of its former self. This guitar is in 100% working condition electrically. I did refret the neck about a year ago using standard Gibson high profile wire. When I acquired this guitar, it had been refretted before and done so poorly. There were a few small chips near the fret slots and some minor scratches in the fretboard. All chips have since been filled and leveled with the correct radius block. The ebony fretboard was restained using luthier grade ebony stain to give a uniform correct color. The neck plays well with no dead spots. I play a high action, so I never really ...
