2008 American Vintage '52 Reissue TelecasterLeo Fender created his first prototype pine body, one pickup, solid body, electric guitar in 1949/50 and named it the Esquire. The Esquire was the first solid body electric guitar produced in the world. By late 1950, Fender improved upon the Esquire design by changing the wood of the body to ash, adding an additional pickup, adding a truss rod, a black pick guard and translucent blond cellulose paint. This new 2 pickup guitar would be named the Broadcaster. In 1951, due to a trademark infringement on Gretsch drums named 'Broadkaster,' Fender changed the name of their Broadcaster to Telecaster. Fender had to order new decals with the name Telecaster but continued production. While he waited for the new decals to arrive, he shipped under 250 guitars without any brand name on them, which we now refer to as "Nocasters." So, in 1951/52 the newly named Telecaster was born and it wasn't changed until 1954 when Leo invented the Stratocaster! Cool! This '52 American Vintage Telecaster Reissue is a must have guitar for any player or collector who really loves Fender guitars. If you are a bluesy player it doesn't get any better than this. This guitar sounds amazing playing the blues ...and you know Muddy Waters played a Tele so you should too. No matter what st yle of guitar you play, this guitar is the one guitar you can play it on. Its diversity is legendary. Many of the best players in history have played a Tele. Players like Muddy Waters, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, Jimmy Page and Steve Cropper to name a few. And you know as well as I do that the Telecaster sound is heard on almost every Country song ever recorded. This model is a recreation of the original! If you've never played one let me point out that this guitar has a fat U shaped neck. It takes a minute to get used to if you have only been playing C or V shape necks. But it feels great after you're used to it. Once you go Fat you won't go back! I think most people agree that the fat neck improves tone.
