Gibson model ES350 archtop guitar. Serial # A17731 which from my research puts it at 1954. The FON # inked on inside is Y4330   L6 or possbly G-very hard to read the last digit. I purchased this guitar in 1981 from an ad in the local newspaper. It had not been used for a long time as indicated by the string condition. Original case is missing the handle(his wife had made a cloth handle which is still attached). The inside of the case is missing the neck chock and there is no key. Case is in fair condition-all hinges and latches work-just shows a lot of wear outside. The guitar plays very well and sounds great. Everything on the guitar is as I purchased it in 1981. Whatever parts are not original were replaced way before I bought it. The tuners are Grovers. Pat Pending USA on back covers and they all look like some sort of grease or oil is around the back covers. The original holes are filled with something soft- not wood putty. The tailpiece does not look original-Chrome- I think they had a nickle type finish then? Its a fairly heavy tailpiece with no numbers or names on it. The pickups/harness etc are original as are the knobs.I tried to get numbers off the pots with a mirror but there is a powdery layer of corrosion on them and I didn't want to remove them possible having a wire break. The bridge is original except for the saddle scre w for the low e string. This saddle also has the point filed down. Th e nut has been replaced. The frets are about 50%- the first 3 showing the most wear. The neck finish is worn to the maple below the first 2 frets-bass side and on the high e side between 2nd and 5th frets. The overall finish is finely checked all over the entire guitar. There is a small touched up spot on the back of the upper bout roughly half a quarter in size. There is also what looks like a cigarette burn close to the nut on the high e side. This is about the size of an eraser head. There are some small scratches on the back and here and there as can be expected with a guitar this age. No repairs or breaks to be seen. The pickguard is the original 5 ply that has a slight curl to it. There is a rubber washer under the mounting screw at the neck end. The gold finish is pretty worn off the bridge and mostly shows silver color. All the binding around body is in good condition with no cracks. The finish has mellowed nicely into a sort of burnt orange color. I hope to have cove red any of the negative areas of the guitar the best that I can. Please ask any questions or if a specific area needs to be pictured I can e-mail them as all twelve pictures have been ... Click for more info
