Les Paul Studio Swamp AshThe Les Paul Studio has long enjoyed a reputation as a modern, no-frills guitar for the studio musician. Known for its tremendous harmonic and sonic capabilities, the world’s most desired Les Paul adds another level of versatility with the Swamp Ash Studio. A harder, more uniformly dense wood, swamp ash has huge, open pores with both hard and soft layers within each ring of the tree. Considered very resonant across the entire frequency spectrum, this unique wood allows the Les Paul Swamp Ash Studio to produce clear bell-like highs, distinct mids and robust lows, resulting in one of the more resounding Les Pauls ever built. The Swamp Ash Studio retains many of the iconic Les Paul’s traditional elements, including a hand-carved top and a neck crafted from a single piece of mahogany, hand-sanded to perfection and given Gibson’s traditional ’50s rounded profile. Other standard appointments include figured acrylic dot fingerboard inlays, a corian n ut, Gibson’s legendary Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece and new quick-connect control pocket assembly. The pickups are a pair of Gibson’s finest: a 490R in the neck position, and a 498T in the bridge position. Together, the pickups deliver all the traditional humbucker crunch expected from a Les Paul. The Les Paul Swamp Ash Studio comes with a standard hardshell case with the Gibson USA silkscreened logo on top.’50s Rounded Neck ProfileNo guitar neck profiles are more distinguishable than the neck profiles employed on the Gibson models of today. The more traditional ’50s neck profileâ€"found on the Les Paul Studioâ€"is the thicker, rounder profile, emulating the neck shapes of the iconic 1958 and 1959 Les Paul Standards. The neck is machined in Gibson’s rough mill using wood shapers to make the initial cuts. But once the fingerboard gets glued on, the restâ€"including the final sandingâ€"is done by hand. That means there are no two necks with the exact sam e dimensions. So while it still has the basic characteristics of its respective profile, each neck will be slightly different, with a distinct but traditional feel.Gibson’s 490R and 498T PickupsThe mid to late 1960s saw the emergence of a very different type of music coming from the clubs of England. This new genre’s players were demanding more powerful amplifiers with increased volume outputs to satisfy their sonic explorations. This led to a call for a more versatile pickup, and Gibson answered the call with the 490T and 490R pickups (“T” for treble, and “R” for rhythm), humbuckers with the tonal characteristics of an original PAF, but with a slight increase in upper mid-range response. The Gibson 498T bridge pickup ... Click for more info
