In the mid 90's, Gibson release a line of Les Pauls made from sustainable wood and aptly named it the Smart Wood series. The Smart Wood we offer today is just gorgeous as well as a serious tone machine. Featuring a mahogany body/neck with a banara top, this beauty just sings. The light weight here enables a deep natural resonance- warm with excellent sustain. Grabbing up all of that natural tone are dual Gibson humbuckers. Gibson chose the 498 & 490 for this guitar and the compliment it perfectly. The 498 retains that awesome Gibson 'PAF' vibe yet kicks up the output a bit. Roll back the volume a bit and you get the warm sassy classic Gibson tone- very dynamically responsive. Roll up to full and you get awesome high gain output. The 490 neck pickup has incredible thick sustain for seemingly endless bend/holds. Beautiful. This Smart Wood is also a true player. The neck here has the '59 Rounded profile- .85" deep at the 5th fret. This gives you a great balance between tone transfer and a fast comfortable feel. To that end, the neck here is satin finished for an effortless feel. The 12" fretboard radius allows you to bend to your heart's content without choking out. The look here is gorgeous- UV cured satin finish showing off the wood's natural beauty and gold hardware. This Les Paul is in exceptional condition- there are a few small compressions(typical of a satin finished guitar), slight discoloration behind the bridge(pic) and some gold plating wear. The frets here are clean- just professionally setup with action of 3/32" at the 12th fret. This auction includes the original hardshell case.
