Original 1972 Fender Competition Mustang with just the right playwear. The Candy Apple finish retains it's deep lustre and shine and has avoided turning into that muddy color that has plagued so many vintage guitars with the same finish. Electrics are all original and the neck/frets/headstock are in great shape. Solder does not appear to have been disturbed. The fret wood has an unusually deep and pronounce grain for this model and the custom color adds to the rare and unique nature of this guitar. I have found an informative site dedicated to Fender Mustang enthusiasts which can be found under The Fender Mustang Story site. I can discern from other research that the Candy Apple Red is a custom order which lends credibility that the body of the guitar may pre date the neck by a few years and assembly has actually taken place in 72 while bodies remained in stock from earlier years. The body is stamped with the familiar "Torres" signature while the neck confirms "Hughes" as the other fender tech. The carries the familiar Fender stamp-Aug 72 in this case and it has a B profile. The case is Fender correct style but made by victoria and is in rough shape but does the job. It sports an interesting sticker inside-"Ford Music Store-Altoona PA" and may or may not be the case supplied with the guitar through a custom order. In any event, it remains a unique piece and the player wear is authentic, not like the failed attempts at the custom shops to emulate 40 years of playwear by "sanding" a few spots and fading it here and there. Real nitro actually "chips" more than it "wears" with age. The biddings starts low and the reserve makes this interesting.
